Russell Martin is batting 5th for the Yankees? That seems odd.
   2. TVerik, the gum-snappin' hairdresser Posted: September 11, 2012 at 07:26 PM (#4233075)
And Martin is batting seventh.

When you have this recent offensive team, you patch 'em together.
   3. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: September 11, 2012 at 07:27 PM (#4233076)
Of course, the Red Sox are playing Scott Podsednik at DH, so.....

How many guys in this lineup will be on the next playoff Sox team?
   5. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: September 11, 2012 at 07:33 PM (#4233080)
Zero Erik.

This is a team that is a few years from being competitive.

Goddammit Lester, grow up and quit grooving the ball after you think an ump has wronged you.
   7. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: September 11, 2012 at 07:39 PM (#4233086)
Is Jeter limping a bit?
   8. TVerik, the gum-snappin' hairdresser Posted: September 11, 2012 at 07:40 PM (#4233087)
I wouldn't put a mortgage payment on that, Jose. Even if it's like five years from now (which I doubt), someone will hang on.

I think Pedroia will still be around. Maybe Ellsbury, maybe Lavarnway, maybe Kalish.
   10. TVerik, the gum-snappin' hairdresser Posted: September 11, 2012 at 07:43 PM (#4233091)
I do think the Sox are going to look to move Pedroia in the offseason, to complete The Purge.
   11. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: September 11, 2012 at 07:45 PM (#4233095)
Who is likely to be here in three years?

Loney
Pedroia
Ciriaco
Aviles
Pods
Ellsbury
Ross
Lavarnway
Kalish

Pedroia probably, Lavarwnay and Kalish maybe and that's about it. And that assumes a playoff spot by 2015.
   12. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: September 11, 2012 at 07:45 PM (#4233096)
If they trade Pedroia they are dumber than I think they are.

Doesn't that depend on return? It could be done well.
   14. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: September 11, 2012 at 07:51 PM (#4233101)
It does. At this point I'm not ready to assume they'll get it right. So far the moves made by Cherington have not impressed me.
   15. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: September 11, 2012 at 07:51 PM (#4233102)
Hey Jon, grow up.
   16. Jay Seaver Posted: September 11, 2012 at 07:51 PM (#4233103)
Jon Lester, making friends with the umpire.
   17. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: September 11, 2012 at 07:53 PM (#4233105)
I don't say this much, good for Bobby. I think he was ######## out Lester and its about ####### time.

Alright, who else is buying an iphone5?
   19. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: September 11, 2012 at 07:55 PM (#4233108)
Ooh, I think Lester got a gift there.
   20. Jay Seaver Posted: September 11, 2012 at 07:56 PM (#4233109)
18 - not I. I'm a year away from being able to upgrade by Android, and every Apple product I've ever used has had one thing that really annoyed me, but there was no workaround because, duh, Apple knows how I should be using my tech better than I do (at least to hear others tell it).

Hey, no-one likes this ump.
   21. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: September 11, 2012 at 07:58 PM (#4233110)
A techie friend describes Apple products as computers for people who don't know how to use computers. I probably fall into that group, I'm definitely an open package use product kind of guy.

Chad Fairchild is making a great argument for robot umps.

Run! Woot!

I use an iPod (because I legitimately think it's the best music device) and an Android phone.
   24. Jay Seaver Posted: September 11, 2012 at 09:00 PM (#4233163)
Ugh.
   25. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: September 11, 2012 at 09:01 PM (#4233165)
What do you know, walking every other hitter eventually bites you in the ass.
   26. Jay Seaver Posted: September 11, 2012 at 09:07 PM (#4233174)
Junichi Tazawa is good.
   27. Jay Seaver Posted: September 11, 2012 at 09:12 PM (#4233180)
Huh. Dustin Pedroia's going to have a pretty decent stat-line once the year is done. I wonder how it would have played out for him and the team if he hadn't been stupid about injuries.
   28. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: September 11, 2012 at 09:23 PM (#4233186)
Yeah, he's about the only guy who has been good since e start of August.
   29. Jay Seaver Posted: September 11, 2012 at 09:23 PM (#4233187)
Very nice play by Ciriaco and Loney there.
   30. Jay Seaver Posted: September 11, 2012 at 09:24 PM (#4233188)
And I'm not sure I'm with Jerry on that ball going foul if Ciriaco lets it go.
   31. Jay Seaver Posted: September 11, 2012 at 09:33 PM (#4233199)
Bunt everything this inning. The Yankees defense clearly can't handle it.
   32. Jay Seaver Posted: September 11, 2012 at 09:41 PM (#4233207)
Hahahahahahhaa ha!
   33. Jay Seaver Posted: September 11, 2012 at 09:48 PM (#4233218)
... and, nuts to that.
   34. DKDC Posted: September 11, 2012 at 10:04 PM (#4233227)
Not to be that guy or anything, but the Orioles sure would appreciate some Red Sox offense right now...

Oh and 18, I'm upgrading my iPhone 4 as soon as I can (without waiting in line for a damn phone).
   35. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: September 11, 2012 at 10:17 PM (#4233236)
We wil do our part but the Sox kind of suck right now.
   36. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: September 11, 2012 at 10:18 PM (#4233237)
I find it hilarious that Ciriaco always destroys the Yankees. He swings wildly at 3 curveballs in the dirt, but manages to make contact on the third one and somehow get it through the infield.
   37. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: September 11, 2012 at 10:18 PM (#4233238)
I'll take it but man I hate guarding the line.

And Robertson didn't throw a strike that whole at bat.
   38. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: September 11, 2012 at 10:21 PM (#4233241)
Aviles taking some fugly swings here.
   39. DKDC Posted: September 11, 2012 at 10:23 PM (#4233242)
#35,

I've rooted for a lot of shitty Orioles teams of late, but last year when they played with some pride in September was actually a lot of fun.

Hopefully the Red Sox can do the same this year (and not against the O's although I'm sure they'd love to return the favor).

They got something cooking, now!
   40. Knock on any Iorg Posted: September 11, 2012 at 10:24 PM (#4233245)
Gotta love it!

There you go DKDC,
   42. Jay Seaver Posted: September 11, 2012 at 10:25 PM (#4233247)
ELLSBURY!

Happy birthday Jacoby.
   44. DKDC Posted: September 11, 2012 at 10:26 PM (#4233249)
congrats sox fans...
   45. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: September 11, 2012 at 10:26 PM (#4233250)
Feel a bit for Robertson. Crap hit by Ciriaco, crap hit by Aviles, ball game.
   46. Biff, highly-regarded young guy Posted: September 11, 2012 at 10:26 PM (#4233251)
I posted a couple days ago that I was OK with the Red Sox losing every game remaining except for against the Yankees. That's working out so far.
   47. Jose Is The Most Absurd Thing on the Site Posted: September 11, 2012 at 10:27 PM (#4233253)
Little thing I hate on that play.m while Ciriaco is scoring Aviles was standing at second, he should have been going to third so he didn't have to worry about scoring on a subsequent hit if Ciriaco was out on the play.
