On the positive side, this game greatly increases the chance the Red Sox respond positively to the resume and scouting video of my slo-pitch performances that I sent them.

If they don't knock down Swish here, their next throw-back uniform should include a skirt.

Seriously, 8 homers, 23 runs in two days and no one gets dusted? Have some professional pride for God's sake.

I think that Bobby Valentine should be let go after the game. I really do. It's not like this is all his fault or anything, but the players obviously hate him, and he kind of sucks at his job anyway.

This is the September 1978 Boston Massacre weekend condensed into three innings.

Things I Have Learned This Evening:
The Red Sox bullpen may actually be as bad as Sox' fans claim

Buy three pieces of lamb of different thickness means you eat your dinner in three tapas-style courses

My smoke alarm apparently does not work, as I have filled my apartment with smoke from the fat on the alarm, to no reaction

I wonder if Valentine could unilaterally start using Bard in the pen and dare the pencil pushers to stop him...

Even if he could or did, what would that solve? One effective arm doesn't make a bullpen.

Over the last two inning, the Yankees sent 23 men to the plate -- Humber faced 27 all day.

Meh. Brushback pitches are stupid and infantile. I'm glad they haven't gone that route (yet).

To be fair, the Yankees would probably hit a brushback pitch for a 2 run double too.

Red Sox should probably have extra security for Sunday night's game to keep the fans from storming the ESPN booth and carrying Francona down to the dugout.

I kind of feel that way too. This bunch of spoiled little ####### crybabies isn't going to play for him and there is ample time to save the season.

I'm not looking to plunk someone just for the hell of it. The Yankee hitters are far too comfortable in the box and the Sox need to do something to keep them from just teeing off. If not a brushback...something.

They weren't ordering pizza, McCarver you dumb ass, they were ordering fried chicken!

How do you get that part of the story wrong?

You know what's a better way to stop them from teeing off? Actually throwing good pitches.

The only time in recorded history that a brushback pitch has ever accomplished that goal was Pedro's on Matsui. It just doesn't really work against major league hitters.

Many MANY Sox fans name the turning point of the 2004 ALCS victory to Pedro Martinez knocking Matsui down. It's balderdash of course, put people believe in this kind of stuff. I remember the NY Post running back page headlines about how the Yankees need to "Drop-i Papi" in 2005 or so, too.
   218. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: April 21, 2012 at 07:42 PM (#4112652)
Ha, Biff, don't tell me you believe it too!
   219. Weekly Journalist_ Posted: April 21, 2012 at 07:43 PM (#4112653)
This has gone from reminding me of Game 1 of the 2004 ALCS to Game 3 of the 2004 ALCS. That's way more than I ever like to think about the 2004 ALCS, ever.

The Yanks have scored 14 runs in 2 innings -- the Phillies have scored 13 runs in their last 45 innings.

They can't do that.

Look, I'm not expecting the Yankees to get intimidated but the Sox are simply not using the whole plate, moving the hitter's eyes and feet and keeping them off balance. Hell my 10 year old little league catcher knows to move the glove around a bit behind the plate.

The worst part of a non-contending year (if that is what this turns out to be) is that it will give Remy and Orsillo even more license to do their stupid shtick.
   225. Jose Can Still Seabiscuit Posted: April 21, 2012 at 07:48 PM (#4112660)
So after tomorrow they will incredibly be 4-11, one game worse than last year at the same time. Good thing they got rid of the beer.
   226. The Yankee Clapper Posted: April 21, 2012 at 07:48 PM (#4112661)
While it's fun (for some of us) to make light of Valentine's tenure, he's not really the problem, as far as I can tell. Replacing the GM & manager doesn't seem to have helped though.

Tazawa for closer!

The shift makes no appreciable difference when the Yankees play it, as far as I can tell.

McCarver knows Epply pitched in the game yesterday, right? Or is he just a total jackass?

(I mean, I know he's a total jackass, but...)

Tomorrow is going to be rained out.

They're bringing in a guy to face the dreaded Nate Spears? Seems like overmanaging.

Of course, the tactical mastermind in Boston unleashes Nick Punto instead.

I'm confident that they can still pick up a loss.

I have honestly never seen anything like that (in a positive way). I don't remember the 06 game very well (I might have been busy that night or something).

Alfredo Aceves =/= Mariano Rivera.

Funny, games like this at Fenway always make me think of Opening Day in...2009, maybe?

Actually it was almost a dead ringer for 1950. Check out the line score for that game:

Yankees 0 0 0 0 0 4 0 9 2 15 15 0
Red Sox 3 1 0 5 0 0 1 0 0 10 15 0

Billy Martin made his debut in that game and became the only player in history to get two hits in one inning in his first two AB's in the Majors.

One of Cashman's worst moves ever was letting this guy walk for nothing.

Or maybe it's his best move ever to plant a huge mole ? :P
