In his first year of eligibility, legendary second baseman Joe Morgan easily won the top spot for Hall of Merit immortality with 99% of all possible points. He was the #1 choice on 55 of the 56 ballots cast and now has the second most vote points ever with 1,336 (Hank Aaron is #1 with 1,344).

In his first year of eligibility, legendary Cincinnati backstop Johnny Bench easily won induction with 98% of all possible points.
Boston Red Sox star Carl Yastrzemski also was inducted without any difficulties with an outstanding 95% of all possible points.
One other new candidate, pitching ace Gaylord Perry, also scored impressively with 86% of all possible points, despite two voters refusing to vote for him as they utilized the first-year protest rule.

Not sure what else to call this - but let’s make this a catch all thread for ideas on how we run things.
I really don’t like the new setup where we are posting individual threads two weeks early - 1989 eligibles as we start the 1988 discussion for example.
I like the idea of starting the discussion early . . . but I don’t like how all of the new threads bump off of hot topics the guys that are actually coming up for election this year. This is a major issue for me.

1987 Results: ‘50’s Stars Kiner, Pierce, and Minoso Are Hall of Merit Bound!
After 26 attempts, legendary Pirate slugger Ralph Kiner finally made it with his 27th by claiming the top spot for HoM induction this “year.” He earned 39% of all possible points.
Though not as long as Kiner, ace ChiSox pitcher Billy Pierce won the second HoM spot for induction in his 18th year on the ballot with 39% of all possible points.
