Help Wanted!
Hey guys, as I mentioned earlier, John Murphy has retired from the Hall of Merit in terms of day-to-day (or even year-to-year) support.
Anyone interested in picking up the torch?
Tasks include, but are not limited to: Posting threads (new eligibles, discussion, ballot, results, individuals of note - am I missing any others?); typing in the compiled results (which is a nightmare); maintaining the list of links.
Regarding the HoM Plaque Room, a curator is needed for it.
Also, most pressing, OCF, Ron W. and John did the ballot tallying. OCF is definitely still involved, I’m not sure if Ron is doing that. But per OCF there are always errors, which is why three people double check each other.
I tend to vote late, so I’m not a great candidate, as they do this tallying continuously during the week(s) of the election; we’ve said in the past voters shouldn’t tally until after they’ve voted, to avoid the temptation of strategic voting.
So if anyone is willing to help out, with any or all of the above, please volunteer! I’ll try to keep up in the meantime, but it’s tough right now - I have a 15-month old daughter, and we just built a new house in October (well, I paid someone to build it, I don’t have those skills), and we are still settling in, the baby is awesome, but she slows things down :-) I also travel cross-country for work a week or two every month which kills a lot of time with the long days. So please help if you can!
Thanks,
—Joe

1. Joe Dimino Posted: December 06, 2012 at 03:12 AM (#4318381)When I finally came up for air Tuesday my dad came from 6 hours away with our Christmas tree, and we had furniture come in and we're still unpacking and spending time with my dad. All of this while working too. Hopefully the worst has passed, I would have never guessed just finding time to post (let alone read) would be so nearly impossible. I guess this is what being a grown up is? Had to happen eventually.
I think the hallofmerit.com domain still points to my host...somewhere, haha. I think it's pointed at my old host. Some of you remember I did start on something a while ago and, Jesus! That was three years ago?? My goodness. I am in the middle of moving as well but, I could definitely put some time into something if anyone is interested in moving to that...just mentioning since Joe says the compiling is a "nightmare." Anything I can do to develop something that might lift that burden...I would definitely love to help out and would be open to ideas.
If there is any interest in this, just let me know. Toss some ideas at me.

But it isn't.

This is an elect-four year, I believe, based on reading that thread.
If we keep John's helpful and extensive style of table, it will be the worst part of the job, and may be best left to whomever posts the thread. Whoever that is needs to check that all the alignments are right.
But someone has to do it.
Also: as soon as we wrap this up, we should post the annual all-BBTF Hall of Fame vote thread.
Shock, definitely on the website. I know we always get ambitious this time of year, but I really would like to do something, especially with the plaque room.
Setting up an online ballot would be great, but would that be an additional step for the voters? Voters, would you be OK with that extra work if needed? Also, we would need to secure it (I'm an information security guy by trade), to make sure no one was able to hack into it, vote multiple times, etc. to alter or manipulate the results.
