Is his surname pronounced Seavers or Sigh-vers?

I've always pronounced it Seavers, and I guess that's how Warner Wolf pronounced it at the NYC SABR regional, or I would have noticed.

Got to be Seavers. In German sirnames, e and i combinations follow the sound of the second letter. Lots of Americans pronounce their names wrong, of course, but that doesn't mean we have to.

Thanks, guys. I have also always pronounced it Seavers. Can't always go by how someone on TV pronounces it (I have heard at least three different pronunciations for Lajoie).

Yeah, like the big conglomerate Siemens (Seamens).

Besides, the announcers all pronounced it Seavers when I was a kid.

I'm a believer (one who believes)
not a belighver (one who belies)

When Tom Seaver was with the White Sox, Jimmy Piersall used to refer to him as "Sievers," confusing him with his contemporary.
