The Hall of Merit’s 2005 HOF Picks: Boggs, Blyleven, Sandberg, Gossage and Trammell!
With a total 28 ballots cast, we decided (following HOF ballot procedures) that Wade Boggs (unanimously!), Ryne Sandberg, Bert Blyleven, Rich “Goose” Gossage and Alan Trammell were more than qualified to be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame this week. 1. John (You Can Call Me Grandma) Murphy Posted: January 03, 2005 at 03:46 PM (#1052706)From the 2005 Hall of Fame Ballot Thread:
There will be a two weeks worth of discussion, then a ballot thread will be posted (Jan. 3).
Not that it would have made any difference, but I would vote for Boggs, Sandberg, Blyleven, and Murphy.
I worded it wrong, Guapo. However, I'll add your ballot anyway.
I thought the case of Tommy John was pretty clearcut within the boundaries that the HoF provides. But he only made four other ballots.
I am one of those voters like sunnyday2, who, recognizing what the Hall's established standards are, finds ten ballot spots to be too restrictive.
I would vote for: Boggs, Sandberg, Blyleven, Trammell, Gossage, Dawson, John, Parker, Murphy, Rice.
If write-ins are allowed, they should be limited to players retired in the current BBWAA eligible period, 1985-1999. This would exclude Santo, but include guys like Rose, Staub, Quisenberry, Nettles, etc.
It wouldn't have made sense to keep the election going past the actual one, but that was my mistake when I set up the other thread.
No problem, Guapo. BTW, when any new ballots are posted, the totals above will reflect that.
Rice
Mattingly
Parker
Boggs
Morris
Blyleven
Sandberg
Gossage
Sutter only if I'm allowed to give extra credit for the splitter if not I'l put Dawson on instead
Since we're following HOF rules, you can vote for candidates using the silly reason that you think their names are cool.
Good to see no shortstops like Trammell on your ballot, yest. I would have been very disappointed in you if you had placed him with the rest. :-)
I thought they were going to announce the HOF selections on Thursday. Well, that means the election is officially over as of right now. Sorry if anybody else wanted to submit a ballot, but it would be silly to keep it going now.
