Other non-pitcher All-Stars with career negative WAR: Ken Reitz, Myril Hoag (?!), Jerry Morales, Billy Hunter, Cito Gaston (who was also an ASG manager), Biff Pocoroba, Ken Harvey and Gerald Perry.
Bobby Valentine didn't play an AS game (did he manage one?)
Joe DeMastri is the worst (career WAR minus-3.9) All-Star ever.
Del (Crandell) was one of the best defensive catchers in history
By "appeared in", do you mean made the All-Star roster or actually played in the game? (And are we including 1945?)
John Tudor. Tudor was 1-7 with a 3.71 ERA in 1985 when he received a tip from a longtime high school coach about a mechanical flaw in his release. Tudor adjusted, won 20 games with a 1.37 ERA down the stretch, and came in second in the Cy Young balloting while vaulting the Cardinals into the World Series.
Tudor also would have fit comfortably on the list misirlou compiled the other night of great final seasons - 12-4, 2.40 ERA in 25 starts for the 1990 Cards after missing all of 1989.
