I was wondering why I didn't hear him at all this past weekend. Sutton has always had a tendency to be overbearing, dating back to his days calling Brewers games. But watching enough Brewer games (and then Diamondback games after he made the move), I could never bring myself to dislike Sutton because he obviously knew what he was talking about and didn't seem afraid to dole out criticism of the team signing his paychecks if it was warranted.
I haven't had MLB Extra Innings in a few years, so I can't speak to if this has changed at all, but from the snippets I see of DBack games via MLB Network, it sounds like Sutton was still a balanced mix of enthused homer and rational critic.
Reading TFA, though, it sounds like it's less a matter of the team stashing away Sutton and more of an instance of Sutton dealing with something serious in his personal life.

I really enjoyed Sutton when he teamed up with Mario Impemba for Angel radiocasts -- more than a decade ago now. I haven't listened to him as much in Arizona, but I can easily believe that Mark Grace sucked the quality out of anybody.
I don't believe the Diamondbacks, the team is clearly distancing themselves from Sutton. That can only mean he's done something so really awful (but not illegal according to them) they can't give him public support, or they are pissed at him. There aren't so many things in category 1, so it increases the likelihood of category number 2.

The D'backs are a pretty conservative organization. If I had to guess, Sutton slept with the wrong woman.

I don't know if it this has been noted elsewhere, but it seems the answer to the Daron Sutton mystery has been revealed, and the explanation was far more mundane than his sleeping habits, but probably no less bizarre.
According to primer fave Nick Piecoro, Sutton was suspended over dress code violations. It seems he prefers to wear suit and tie, but the Diamondbacks want him to wear polos with the team logo, and the two sides have had butted heads for several years on the issue. During the last game he broadcast, he made a veiled reference to the situation, and the Diamondbacks sat him down in response.

That is dumb. On both sides. Just make Sutton wear a pin with the D'Backs logo on suit somewhere.

I've heard of places of employment having a dress code, but didn't realize it was possible to overdress for the part. I was always told, it's best to overdress than underdress. This just seems to be totally f-ed up.

Hilarious.
The Nazis also made people wear certain logos.
