Primer’s own Mr. Megdal takes a break from his contractually obligated ball-busting of the Wilpons to point out that Serious You Guys, the Orioles really are a pretty solid team now:
Read More...BALTIMORE—A pair of diametrically opposed views exists about the Baltimore Orioles, 2012’s winner of 93 games and a playoff spot, off to another strong start in 2013.
Outside the Baltimore area, skeptics abound. Sure, the Orioles won 93 games, but their Pythagorean record—a measure of expected wins and losses based ...

1 2 >I've been following this, and can somebody shed some light on this for me? What does the Orioles/White Sox game have to do with whether or not the Ravens can play their game? Is this just something where the NFL wants the baseball game moved so they can have more fans show up?
Whatever the case, I hope the Orioles/White Sox/MLB tell the NFL to go pound sand.
You reap what you sow.
They could very easily move the football game to Wednesday then. They did it last year.
That's a very good point, especially given all the tailgating vehicles that likely aren't going to want to budge after they've set up, in order to let the Orioles fans depart.
Bingo.
They mention that in the article. Supposedly they don't want to do it because of Rosh Hashanah. I don't really understand why that would be a big conflict, I assume they don't cancel monday night football when the holiday is on a monday.
Won't the Orioles have been eliminated by this point?
Just leave it. It'll all work itself out.
The Orioles & White Sox would have to travel after a night game and play a day game to accommodate the NFL. Not worth the trouble.
Wasn't the first game last year on a Wed? Just do that again this year.
And I'll add my voice; Hey NFL, the MLB schedule has been out for several months, play the game Friday night, or Saturday night, or Sunday night or Monday night.
What really pisses me off is that in the end MLB will cave.
EDIT: By the way, weren't these baseball/football scheduling conflicts supposed to go away after we got rid of the multi-purpose stadiums?
I think the NFL gets something from the federal government in exchange for never having friday games.
Also there are some logistical problems associated with both teams playing at the same time. One is the aforementioned parking problem. Another is staffing. A lot of the support and concessions staff works in both builldings, so there would likely be shortages in both.
An example of how complicated things can get: At O's games, the staff pays $2 to park in a lot about a quarter-mile away from Oriole Park. That same parking lot is a prime lot for the Ravens, as it is right across the light rail tracks from M&T Bank Stadium. The Ravens are probably getting $40-$50 a spot in that parking lot. BTW, the Ravens do not offer employee parking anywhere in the complex. You either pay the full price, or find paking on the street. And street parking in Baltimore is largely forbidden on Ravens game days.
No reason whey the Ravens can't play Wednesday. I'm not an expert on Judaism or any other religion, but I suspect that nobody is going to boycott the NFL because of them playing on a religious holiday. They play on Christmas, don't they?
NEVER FORGET
I'm sure they've played on Rosh Hashanah before.
Baltimore has a large Jewish community and more than its fair share of observant types. I'm sure more than a few are season-ticket holders and moving the game to Wednesday would piss them off big time.
Edit: referenced to #31.
If RH service typically last until 1pm on the first day, how will an 8pm start time interefere with that?
There'd be services Wednesday night and Thursday (first day) morning.

I was attempting to make two points: The Ravens would have a PR problem if they agreed to play on Wednesday evening whereas the Orioles would have one if they agreed to a Thursday matinee.
OK, so there is a problem then. Thanks for enlightening me.
Guess the Ravens will just have to cancel then! :D
Negative. That was their second game. Furthermore, I am pretty sure that it was a 1pm start, meaning that fans had a shot at getting home before sundown.
Fixed.
So WWSD, Jason? Give them each half a game on Thursday night?
The Sports Television Broadcasting Act -- which provides an anti-trust exemption for sports leagues to have a joint TV contract -- has a restriction on the NFL playing games on Friday & Saturday during the high school & college season.
Oh god was it ever. I'll summarize: "Baseball sucks, and Roger Goodell should use his bulging muscles to settle this issue to his liking."
