Would Jay have been lectured in front of his teammates and/or yanked from the game by Matheny for suicidally reckless baserunning had he been called out?
Jay was safe not because of Castro's inattentiveness, but more because of luck.
if the second out has just been recorded and you've see you've got a good chance to score, then it's a good play.
Unless he was called out by a lot, I hope not. If the second out has just been recorded and you've see you've got a good chance to score, then it's a good play. Considering he was actually safe, then there's really no reason to fault Jay's decision making.
He makes plenty of mental miscues out there. He loses track of outs. He once had his back to the plate during a pitch. The level of concentration isn't where it needs to be with him.
