Light at the end of the ridiculously low-ceilinged tunnel.
Read More...The Cubs have actually played pretty good baseball when sequencing is not considered. By wOBA differential, they’ve been a well above average team. Their record is almost entirely a reflection of the power of the timing of various events.
In our Win Probability section, we track a stat called “Clutch”, which basically looks at the wins a team has gained or lost due to the leverage of the game when their positive or negative ...

1. Neutral Milk Dotel (Dan Lee) posted on January 25, 2013 at 07:19 AM # hit 0 | hit 0I'm not sure he was really an NFL player - he seemed like he could have been a Jim Jensen sort of guy who could play HB/WR/TE/emergency QB, but that would require a coaching staff who's into that sort of thing.
Back when Samadzija was first coming up, they used to talk up him and Mark DeRosa (QB at Penn) being on the team together.
Others included Mitchell Boggs, current Dodgers prospect Zach Lee, and NFL QBs Jeff Blake, Brandon Weeden and Brian Hoyer.
In an earlier thread we couldn't think of anyone except Chad Hutchinson who made the major leagues as both.
Kinda related, but the Marlins signed OF/QB Pat White today.
They had an article on the birth of the Pistol on CBSSports.com the other day and Ault talked about Kaepernick and how he originally threw sidearm and ""He had that pitching throw." The whole article is an interesting read.
The White Sox recently signed former Arkansas QB Mitch Mustain. He posted a 4.63 ERA in 19 games in low A this year after not pitching since HS.
Former Buckeyes QB Joe Bauserman pitched in the minors for the Pirates before going to Ohio State.
The Royals drafted P Jeff Granger in the first round out of Texas A&M, where was also the team QB. He briefly pitched in the majors.
That's funny to me because Douglass couldn't throw in the NFL.
Former Tigers and Expos pitcher Joe Sparma was a QB at Ohio State.
Vida Blue and Jim Abbott (!) were standout HS quarterbacks. Dan Marino was a standout HS pitcher, drafted by the Royals.
* - I'm actually unconvinced that Dixon is a bad NFL quarterback. He's no star, but I think he'd be an entirely adequate backup on a team that doesn't insist on a pocket-style QB running a generic West Coast offense.
is this just anecdotal or has the fan demographic in SF gotten a little unruly?
Maybe Raider nation is de-gentrifying across the bay?
Brian Westbrook also went to Villanova. I think he may still hold the all-time all-purpose yards record for all of college football.
Not true exactly. He had a strong arm. He also had the accuracy and touch of Mitch Williams. His legs usually went where they were supposed to so that seemed the better option.
It could be bad memory or I'm confusing him with Vince Evans but my brain says Douglass threw a great spiral -- lovely thing to watch as it sailed 5 feet over the receiver.
I think Arkansas fans (of whom I'm one) are more than willing to think of him as a former USC benchwarmer, thank you very much. (He transferred after starting -- successfully, I should add -- most of his freshman year, then got crosswise with stupid Houston Nutt.)
Strong arm doesn't mean you can pass. Douglass rarely passed and when he did he didn't complete them and when he did complete them he wasn't efficient. He couldn't throw.
"Remembering Elway's summer of baseball"
8 assists in just 41 games.
As opposed to Joe Kapp. The ugliest passes ever thrown by a QB, but pretty effective for all that.
Actually Y. A. Tittle intentionally threw with a wobble when throwing to R. C. Owens. He'd just throw high to Owens (a former basketball player) and the wobble helped Owens judge the flight of the ball.
Geez, hadn't heard that. I also understand that Ray Lewis is retiring; it's odd that nobody is talking about this stuff.
It seems like he is very grateful to a divine being for his success and rehabilitation from his old self. I wish some of the so-called sports networks like ESPN would stop hiding this story and tell the public about it. Also, their shameful practice of ignoring the Kaepernick adoption issue is beneath contempt.
Abbott never had the arm to move on to the NFL.
?
But the one with the deepest, yet most tortured connection is Heidi Russo, his biological mother who gave him up for adoption
Weird..to me, it seems like they bring this up every ten seconds, but I probably watch way too much SportsCenter.
What does this have to do with Tim Tebow?
What is once?
I've largely ignored all Super Bowl conversation over the past 9 days. I like it that way.
Wow, we're up to Puppy Bowl IX.
