There are only so many ways to make an impressive diving catch in the outfield, but here’s one you’ll remember: N.C. State’s Brett Williams with a flawless lay out into a tuck, followed by a somersault and a pop back up to his feet. He closes with a flawless (and well-earned strut) reminiscent of the WWE’s dearly departed Mr. Perfect.
Haven’t seen that before.

The important issue is that this guy is going to get drafted because of this catch. Kinda like Gary Mathews getting a contract because of one catch.
So the question is, how good of a catch is this? He's lined up, nearly dead center (say, half a step to his right off dead center). He runs into right center (you can see the light stanchion behind the catch) and makes the catch just shy of the stanchion. He's running slightly back and to his right, but doesn't appear to cover much ground vertically (i.e. toward center field and away from home). His route looks almost exactly perpendicular to the home/center axis.
Given all that, is that great range? Good range? He looks like he's all-out from the moment the ball is struck, so it looks like he got a good jump. I'm inclined to call this a very good catch, but not a great one.
