MLB: Don Sutton never shy about voicing his opinion

Sutton: Because that’s where the defaced money is.

The outspoken Sutton—who came up with the Dodgers in 1966 and pitched with them for 16 of his 23 seasons—has his own opinion about everything.

He said in an interview last week that he hates pitch counts.

“I say it with a laugh in my voice when I broadcast: ‘That’s 100 pitches. On the next one, he’s going to turn into a troll.’ At 101, you just disappear. Poof, you’re gone,” Sutton said.

When I saw this headline, I figured Howell got over one hundred million dollars. 'Cause, you know... It's the New Dodgers, so why the hell not?

I like it, even if his FIP is a lot higher than his ERA. He's 29-year-old who doesn't throw hard but who had a 3.04 ERA and almost a 2:1 K/BB ratio last year. If he doesn't reinjure his shoulder or regress this looks to be a good move.

Nothing but good things to say about JP Howell. His swaggering walk off the mound after striking out someone to end the inning is pretty badass too.

Unfortunately with the shoulder injury it's unlikely that 2008-9 Howell is going to show up again, he's pretty much just a lefty specialist at this point instead of being able to dominate hitters on both sides like he used to.

#7, question. Howell never had crap for a fastball. He's always been throwing junk, hasn't he? How has this injury prevented him from throwing all his curves?

Howell sort of embodies the worst-to-first transformation of the Rays from 2007 to 2008. He went from 1-6 with a 7.59 ERA to 6-1 with a 2.22 ERA.
