The timing for our first year electing 4 candidates could not have worked out better, since class of 2013 is the strongest in terms of electees that we’ve ever had. The top of the 1934 ballot included Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker, Eddie Collins, Pop Lloyd, Smokey Joe Williams and Cristobal Torriente, but only 2 were elected.

I guess it's nice that it's kind of rare, because it makes it that much more embarrassing for the liar involved.
To gain "proper historical perspective" on candidates, if five years is good, wouldn't a ten-year wait be even better? Or 20-years?
Having got all that out of the way, I will only say that I favor shortening the wait to three years, or even two, IF they also set a minimum age for eligibility. Has any player ever had a HOF or near-HOF career in MLB, then been out of MLB for 2+ years, and then returned to add significantly to his resume after turning age 40?
