    2013 Results: Bonds, Clemens, Piazza and Biggio are elected to the Hall of Merit!

    Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mike Piazza and Craig Biggio have been elected to the Hall of Merit!

    The timing for our first year electing 4 candidates could not have worked out better, since class of 2013 is the strongest in terms of electees that we’ve ever had. The top of the 1934 ballot included Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker, Eddie Collins, Pop Lloyd, Smokey Joe Williams and Cristobal Torriente, but only 2 were elected.

    I've been busy at Designated Sitter recently. My latest piece focuses on three guys from the postwar era who had talents in baseball and other fields as well; Jim Brosnan, Chuck Connors, and Lee Maye. Someday, I'll reach critical mass. I was on a public access show a month ago. I'm trying to get radio interviews now.

    Does anyone know if Matt Murton is coming back from Japan? He signed a two-year contract that just ended.

    About his time in Japan...

    Regardless of what happens, the fact is, I had a great time in Japan. My wife and kids love Kobe and my feelings for the Tigers have not changed. Of course, if I end up returning next year, I'll be looking forward to it and will be excited about it. God will help show me the appropriate path to take.

    About returning to the Majors...

    There was a time when I thought there was a right way to do things. And then there were times when I thought the opposite was the right thing to do. Honestly, I have no idea what I want to do now. Up until now, there have also been times when the result ended up being the complete opposite of what I was thinking. I mean, during my first year in the Majors, the thought of me playing in Japan sometime in the future never crossed my mind. I'm sure the answer will come with time.

    Today is the 15,000th "day-versary" of the last game in baseball's first stadium, Connie Mack Stadium (AKA Shibe Park). Game ended on a walk-off win with Tim McCarver scoring the last run. Then the fans rioted and looted.

    Other events having their anniversary today: one of the happiest moments of White Sox Fan Brother's life, Jose Mesa can't close it out, Jack Buck will see you tomorrow night, Denkinger blows the call & St. Louis schatts their collective pants, Branch Rickey sells out, Joe Cronin fetches a record price for his father-in-law.
