2013 Results: Bonds, Clemens, Piazza and Biggio are elected to the Hall of Merit!

Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Mike Piazza and Craig Biggio have been elected to the Hall of Merit!

The timing for our first year electing 4 candidates could not have worked out better, since class of 2013 is the strongest in terms of electees that we’ve ever had. The top of the 1934 ballot included Ty Cobb, Tris Speaker, Eddie Collins, Pop Lloyd, Smokey Joe Williams and Cristobal Torriente, but only 2 were elected.

Bonds and Clemens were each unanimous at 1 and 2. I believe that’s the first ...

I'll second (or third) that. My dad was diagnosed about 10 years ago, at a time where a diagnosis was more or less a death sentence. He's been in remission the last few years, so it would appear that they've made a fair amount of progress over that time. After a couple years of treatment with Thalidomide, they tried Velcade and it was very successful. I don't think they're treating it with anything now, aside from Aredia. Best of luck, Bob.

I have been treating Bob Tufts' offerings with the ultimate respect. He's gotten to reveal things that we, as sabermetricians, have no way of knowing, unless an actual MLB players tells us. And he's friendly and doesn't just shove the things we cannot do in our faces. I do not know what a "melanoma" is, but pretty much anything with "mela" in it seems to be bad. So, my best comfort and offering of luck, just like everyone here. I'm not the only guy here who likes and appreciates your work. Here at BTF, you appear to have a VERY good general reputation.

Nice interview. I enjoyed the bit about John Schuerholz. And, I remember Roy Hartsfield from when he managed the early Blue Jays.

Great interview. I've always enjoyed seeing Bob's perspectives on here, but that last bit about multiple myeloma came as quite a shock. You'll be in my prayers, Mr. Tufts. :(

Bob had mentioned the myeloma in this column he wrote questioning the perceived high incidence of cancer among Royals players.

and since you've joined this thread, a somewhat non-baseball question. when you worked at JEF, did your athletic career help in dealing with other clients? i know for the more local-nyc athletes it would, but am curious about your experiences in that regard.

Bob Gee - I dealt with foreign private banks, so it didn't help me at all at Jefferies.

There were a few other ex-jocks in my time at JEF (brief NFL careers of Ned Bolcar and Bob Holly, Steve Previs in the ASA) who probably had something to talk about with domestic clients.
