Chace’s Pancake Corral, for real. (NYT backgrounder on the star who stayed)

Brendan Ryan is one of three people in last night's lineup who are now batting between .200 and .210. Also on the active roster are Chone Figgins (.181 in 149 AB) and Munenori Kawasaki (.192 in 82 AB).
Mike Carp's .209/.318/.391 batting line is much, much, much better than the guy he replaced at first base, Justin Smoak. Whose SLG this year is .320, and is leading the team in home runs.
John Jaso has been the best hitter on the team, by a HUGE margin.
Unless you count Jason Vargas, of course. :-)
Mariners pitchers are hitting .227, very close what the entire team is hitting (.233).
As I never pass up a chance to point out: in his last year in NCAA ball, Vargas was a distinctly better hitter than his teammate, Troy Tulowitzki. Vargas was the full-time DH and the Sunday (meaning #3) starting pitcher.
