Chace’s Pancake Corral, for real. (NYT backgrounder on the star who stayed)

Seems our favorite M, who dazzles us with the K, makes it a point to visit the Pancake Corral a couple of times a week, in fact, whenever the team’s in town.

“Yes, he comes in with wife and cute little boy and he always has the strawberry waffle with bacon and eggs and orange juice,” says owner Jane Zakskorn, whose dad, William Chace, now deceased, opened the cozy little breakfast and lunch joint 55 years ago ...

I've been thinking about this a lot, and I think I might have done the Flaming Lips' cover of "War Pigs" during the 00s. I'd be a little lost now. "Dance Yrself Clean" doesn't exactly start big.

After their meteoric rise on K Records, they were soon to be found in the cutout bin on K-Tel records, 8-tracks, and cassettes.

Man, I was so in love with K records in '90, '91, '92. They'd send out these big foldout catalogs on cheap yellowish paper four times a year, with a bunch of K releases and also a pretty great selection of non-K indie pop 7 inches they distributed in an era in which it was often hard to track these things down. And it also had all of these odd things in it -- K put out a couple of cassettes by the Olympia Symphony Orchestra, things like that. Anyway, when one of those things showed up in the mail it was pretty much the highlight of the whole month.

I think I've still got a bunch of those, thanks to my inability to throw such things out or into the recycling bins.

Decades from now, someone poking around my attic will come across an incredible treasure trove guaranteeing massive wealth.
