Odds of being attacked by a ~~shark~~ marlin: 1 in 11.5 million.

Pierre’s clout came leading off the bottom of the first for the Miami Marlins against the Cincinnati Reds.

Pierre’s homer was his first since June 23. He whooped when the ball went over the fence down the right-field line.

“I don’t know how to react to those things, so it’s just a spur-of-the-moment deal,” Pierre told reporters of his homer reaction. “That’s about the only time you’ll see me smiling on the baseball field.”

I never completely confused Mike Redmond and Mark Redman - I knew that Redmond was the semi-regular catcher who hit like .400 off Glavine and that Redman was a left-handed starter - but I usually had to think a little bit before remembering which one was Mike and which one was Mark. The existence of Tike Redman probably complicated things for me.

Huh, I also totally missed that Mike Redmond was managing this team. That's cool, he was active only a couple years ago.

They were teammates one year. Don't know if they ever formed a battery though.

I remember Mike Redmond because back in around 2006/2007 when I had Mauer in my AL-only fantasy league I'd plug him in whenever Mauer had a day off and he always seemed to perform inexplicably well. Gardenhire was a proponent of changing as little as possible in the clubhouse so as I recall Redmond frequently hit 3rd in a fairly decent lineup, so his pro-rated counting stats were pretty good as well.

On topic, I swear to you that when I saw this headline I assumed it meant the Marlins had brought Redmond in maybe on an NRI to compete for the backup catcher job. Not that I could name their starting catcher. Maybe it's Mike Redmond?

I remember a reported asked Bobby Cox, after another execrable Redman performance, if Cox saw any improvement from Redman. He said something like, "I saw what I usually see with Redman." That was the most scathing review of one of his players I can remember from Cox.

I was going to joke that some of you had forgotten Kevin Coffman, but... well, I'd forgotten just how bad Redman was (11.63 ERA, 6 games, 5 starts). Blocked it out, I guess.
EDIT: No Brave with as many innings as Redman posted a lower ERA+ with Atlanta. Least WAR is Jo-Jo Reyes (-3.0), followed by Kyle Davies (-2.8). Coffman and Redman were way back at -1.2.
