I just got in from work, headed over here to BTF, saw "Marlins trade Jose Reyes, Josh Johnson, and Mark Buerhle..." in the sidebar and my heart jumped a bit as I clicked the link and prayed AA was the one who made this move.

This is very exciting as a Jays fan - get a large upgrade at short, and fill two gaping holes in the rotation without giving up up Noah Syndergaard, Aaron Sanchez, or D'Arnaud.

Reyes and Johnson may be injury risks - even with Reyes being very durable this season - but I'll take the upside they represent anytime.

Why not? I can assure myself the most money out there, suffer through a year partying on South Beach, and then get traded to a contender. Doesn't sound too awful to me.

There are some rumors floating around the Twittersphere that the Marlins are going to take A-Rod off the Yankees' hands for (primarily) a bundle of cash, and that this move was needed to clear the decks for that one.

So seeing as how I have no idea who comes back/who will be healthy for the Jays next year, how strong does this make them. I already figured they would bounce back from last year given the absurd number of injuries. Does this make them legit contenders? I'm guessing yes, but I have very little idea of who is pitching for the team next year.

There's some real dark spots there, but the top 4 in the rotation and the Bautista/Encarnacion/Reyes/Lawrie grouping is a heck of a start to a team. I'd say they are absolutely legit contenders.

Yeah, that's a pretty good but flawed team in a division full of them. The AL East race should be pretty intense next year.

If it's true the Marlins had a choice between the three catchers, it's a bit telling they'd go for Mathis. I'd've been all over Arencibia but I guess the Marlins want a guy who is a sure bet to never be more expensive than he already is.

Wasn't there another team that used to play in the AL East? Supposedly freed up a lot of money this year? Needs some pitching help and has had a revolving door at SS in recent years? Maybe they didn't have the players to match Toronto's offer.
