Read More...Alex Sanabia is on the Marlins. The odds are at least decent that you’ve never heard of Alex Sanabia before. What’s he all about? Let’s see ... leads the league in losses ... kind of a control pitcher in the minors ... 24 years old ... drafted in the 32nd round, just a round after William Mays ... but pretty nondescript, mostly.
...Spitter. He’s the spit guy. The guy with the spit. Yeah, I remember him. Ol’ Spitface with the spit coming out of his face. Good spitter, that guy. Loves to spit. ...

Snicker.
"Tim"
I mean, I think the Mets might even consider a package of Niese plus a b-prospect.
This snark is definitely outdated.
Marlins will probably ask for Olt, but the above trade with Buckel or Grimm wouldn't be a bad one.
I'd give up both for Stanton. If Texas would do that, I don't think anyone could beat their offer.
True. But, Stanton fits the Yankees needs precisely. They are a win-now, with a fading offense, good, but old, pitching, and they won't add significant salary for 2014.
Stanton will be cheap for two years, and then they can dump a boatload of cash on him.
Why the hell would you offer that much money? He's made pennies from the game. He's the perfect guy to offer a seriously below market contract that offers genuine financial security. I guess 7/150 might be below market for him but you should be looking for a serious discount.
Almost exactly halfway between those two.
Seriously though the Cubs should be willing to subsidize the Marlins for years to come to get Stanton. they've got the money and no other use for it.
Take Ricky off their hands, send Alfonso Soriano, DeJesus, and Marmol, pay for all of Soriano, DeJesus, and Marmol, send some decent prospects and throw in a ton of money if they'll let you which I kind of doubt they would.
Agreed. I think that's a pretty serious below market. I got confused by Snapper's post, though. Stanton still has 4 years left before FA. I would probably offer something like 7/110, in this case. And I wouldn't feel that he has to be resigned before a deal. 4 prime years of Stanton is worth Profar and some B prospects.
Well the Angels could beat the offer by giving up Trout, but you probably meant just with prospects. In that case I think the Cards have a shot -- Taveras, Rosenthal, Adams and Jenkins. Baltimore could give up Machado and Bundy and two other guys. The question isn't whether Profar and Olt and two other guys can be beaten, it's whether anyone would be willing to beat it.
Maybe it is, but I still laughed.
Well, why would they give up the best player in baseball for anybody?
Throat Warbler Mangrove
They have made these deals before with Florida. Castellanos, Rondon, Porcello and Dirks. Sure, Profar is a better offer but that won't stop the Marlins.
Year 1: $400K
Year 2: $9M
Year 3: $14M
Year 4: $21M
Year 5: $25M
Maybe try to get an option year at $25M or something. Otherwise, I'm happy to go to arbitration with him and bid on him as a FA.
For players through age 22 (600+ PA), he's top 20 in OPS+. He's #3 in ISO, just behind DiMaggio and Ted, just ahead of Mathews and well ahead of Pujols. He's also a very good defensive RF.
He strikes out more than you'd like but I think he's about to go McGwire on the league. He just put up a 300 ISO, playing half the time in Miami -- on the road his ISO was over 350; for his career it's 310 on the road. Pitchers will start pitching around him more and he seems to have the eye to take advantage of that which will likely help the BA. He is already from 20-22 doing what McGwire did from 22-27 -- over 6% HR/PA, over 20% HR/FB (which, if anything, is trending up). Unlike McGwire (255 career BABIP), Stanton's BABIP is a very solid 330.
I'm the biggest cynic around here when it comes to young players "blossoming" and Stanton may never take a step forward -- in which case you've got a 4-5 WAR guy through the prime of his career. If memory serves this is what ZiPS career projection looked like last year. Stanton took a little step up in lots of stuff this year -- BABIP, HR%, HR/FB, LD%, IF/FB, XBH%, and his GB/FB fell by 30%. He was on pace for 6.5-7 WAR if he hadn't gotten hurt (hopefully not something else he has in common with McGwire). Quite possibly that's just a good year but I'll take my chances.
A nearly fully formed McGwire at 22 who plays a good RF -- where do I sign?
He will now go Curt Blefary on me.
Doesn't work. As Stanton himself pointed out to Bryce Harper on Twitter at the time of the Marlins-Jays megadump trade, his last name backwards is NOTNATS.
This is a terrible nickname. Tyler Moore is a much funnier name.
3-Teamer built around Ellsbury.
That is awesome.
Huh?
Nats don't have enough in the minors to make it work, though for the right reasons (graduation of stars).
I will be interested to see if Texas offers Profar in a deal; getting Stanton would certainly be a hell of a way to replace Hamilton.
Pam.
Stick him in RF and bat him cleanup?
Is this a serious question? There's no player in Washington's lineup you don't move off his position for Stanton.
Stick Jason Werth at 1B, Harper in LF. Problem solved.
Well, I'd probably keep Ian Desmond at SS. :-)
