Backman is known to be a great motivator and teacher. He won’t wave a magic wand and make this 4-A squad a contender, but I guarantee the players will maximize their potential- whatever that may be. He can manage a bullpen, and certainly will run a clean clubhouse. He will demand respect and a winning attitude. The Mets may not win under Backman, at least not right away, but they will compete. Yankees GM Brian Cashman said in 2011 that the Mets “abused” Feliciano by relying on him to pitch constantly.

And knowing the Mets "abused" Feliciano, Cashman signed him to a two year contract.

Pretty sweet for Mets fans - send in a mole to burn $4 million a year off the Yankees payroll, then steal him back after the last detonator cap has fired.

He will be remembered as fondly as Ryan Madson was in Cincinnati, El Duque with the Expos, or Pokey Reese with the Mariners.

These guys need to learn to follow the example of Juan Guzman with the Rays and put in a better effort to live up to their contracts.
