De Montbrun is a 51-year-old Montreal truck broker and former Expos season-ticket holder. I wrote about him in a column in April 2005 after the Nationals played their first home opener in Washington. De Montbrun went to Washington for the game, which was on a Friday, but it was sold out and he couldn’t get tickets. So he stuck around for the weekend and went to games on the Saturday and Sunday. He has continued to make trips to Washington each year to cheer on the Nationals.

Well, since that first game was on a Thursday (though I'm sensing this mistake was the writer's, not De Montbrum's).

I find it hard to believe that Steve couldn't have gotten a ticket on the street or through a ticketbroker. Somehow I think he could have afforded the upcharge.

Yeah, but at least in 1965 Washington had some sort of a team, if you could call it that. Sort of like the position of Cleveland fans when the Ravens won the 2001 Super Bowl, while the replacement Browns team was going 3 and 13. The sweetest feeling must have been what Baltimore fans felt when the Ravens won a Super Bowl while Irsay's Colts were just crawling out of the coal mine in Indianapolis.
