At age 22 in 1941, Reiser finished second for National League MVP. In just 137 games, he had 70 extra-base hits and led the league in runs (117), batting (.343), doubles (39), triples (17), total bases, getting hit by pitches and, if they’d kept track of on-base plus slugging back then, that, too (.964).

He was as good in reality as Harper dreams of being.

Then Reiser started running into walls. He never led the league in anything again, except stolen bases a couple of times….

I know they're trying real hard to lure the Nats to Fort Myers. I was sitting in the Sanford Autotrain station when one of the city councilmen walked up to me and asked if I had any influence with the Nats, just because I was wearing a Curly W cap. He gave me his card. Unless he recognized me as a BBTF poster.

I would love if the Nats came to Ft. Myers, it would be fun to see them every year. City of Palms itself isn't a bad park from a fan's viewpoint. The problem is the minor league complex is about 3-4 miles down a pretty unsavory road and not exactly the best facility on the planet.

Sanford has a nice 2,000 seat ballpark, too.

My brother lives in nearby Lake Mary, Florida, so I've seen this ballpark a couple of times. It's nice, and historic, too...on this very spot, those famous baseball words were uttered:

"Get that n*gger off the field...!"

Why doesn't the Nats buy the Palms Park and renovate it themselves oragreeto pay for the renovations through higher rent?

Just like a real business does with their facilities.
