Werth will never be worth the amount of money on his contract, of course -- this goes without saying -- but it's worth pointing out that not only has he returned solidly to his career norms this year, he's actually changed himself into a genuinely good leadoff hitter, which is something the Nats have never had. He's putting up a .393 OBP and a 125 OPS+ and seems to have come back from his recent injury without a hitch. Not much home run power, but that's not as much of a problem when you're batting leadoff.

Werth's change in approach is really cool, and I think you pretty much have to give most of the credit to Davey.

He's maintained pretty much the same (quite good) walk rate through all these seasons. Werth lost his power stroke, but he's been remade as a different hitter in a very short period of time. He's probably a little lucky in BABIP this season, but with the huge drop in K-rate, Werth should be able to maintain a good OBP even if he loses 30-40 points of BABIP.
