Jeff Wilpon and the Mets absolutely did the right thing yesterday at Citi Field, saluting [Chipper] Jones as he opened his final — no Favre- or Clemens-esque flip-flops, he promised — visit to New York. For as much as the Braves’ retiring superstar has taken away from the Mets’ franchise, he has given them just as much. ...
“The body of work ... is very impressive,” Wilpon told Jones. “Unfortunately, you’ve left a lot of Met fans’ hearts broken at times.”
Always, he got their hearts racing. What more could you want from a rival?
“Somebody asked me the question [recently]: If I were a Mets fan, how do I think I’d feel about me?” Jones said. “I would respect the body of work. But I would hate his guts.”
I'm pretty psyched because I've randomly got tickets to tomorrow's game, which is his last one ever in New York.
