HOW WILL THE ANGELS PLAY TONIGHT? ... because last night was awesome.
He Has Risen!
Derek Jeter will begin rehab games tomorrow with the Scranton AAA team.
I've always thought that fielding % is the single worst stat in baseball. "The Orioles have a .991 fielding percentage this year" means absolutely nothing to me.
I'm picking on YES here, but a lot of broadcasts do it. It's annoying enough when they skip play-by-play for an inning to interview players wives or some B celebrity about a charity, but this was an inning-long video interview with another YES reporter.
In a world with WPA, or War that uses fip, there is no way that fielding percentage is the worst stat in baseball. A high fielding percentage tells you that the team is sure handed and makes the plays that they should make. It of course doesn't tell you range or value of the defense, but it's not useless.
One thing I hate - maybe I hate this aspect most of all - is that all of the numbers sound good. A ".991" sounds a whole lot like a ".987" to me.
“Once we learned of it,” said Mozeliak, “I did contact the grounds crew and just asked that they don’t.
“It’s just not club policy to be putting religious symbols on the playing field or throughout the ball park. I didn’t ask for the reason behind it. I just asked for it to stop.”
apparently Mo ordered the groundscrew to not put the cross or 6 on the mound for this homestand. No artwork on mound.
I know it's his last season and all, but this seems like a huge overreach of power for Rivera.
I lost track of who had whose lunch money. Did we ever track down that team?
Not saying Angel cost the Braves the game, but he did.
Fox Sports midwest just said "Carpenter has the most extra base hits by a Cardinal second baseman before the break." Then they show the wall of fame and Rogers Hornsby's name... I of course look at bb-ref for Hornsby and took a random year(1922) and he destroys Carpenter in the first half... 22hr, 6 3b, and 23 2b. Vs. Carpenter 25 2b, 3 3b, 8 hr.... No fact checking by them? (I wonder if they meant to say since Hornsby...but I'm pretty sure that they didn't)
