Why'd Murphy get ejected?
I remember thinking at the start of the year how much the Braves are going to miss Chipper in the lineup...
2012 Chipper Jones 124 OPS+ (448 PAs)
2013 Chris Johnson 128 OPS+ (414 PAs)
So...yeah. Didn't see that one coming.
He was spitting blood on the walk off the field. I'm not sure his jaw isn't broken.
The replay looks like he got it in the ear-hole.
Well, Jesus, now I feel awful for aping Sam's shtick yesterday
Braves beatwriter O'Brien just said Heyward is staying behind in NYC while the team travels on to St. Louis. Doesn't sound like great news, but hopefully it's just for observation. Fingers crossed.
MLB has a concussion DL now, right?
@mlbbowman: Heyward fractured his right jaw when he was hit by the pitch this afternoon. Likely out 4-6 weeks. #Braves
OMG Josh Thole hit a HR.
This team has a real run in them.
You watch your asses, Baltimore, Boston and Tampa!
Showalter is doing an awful job of trying to manage this 9th inning in the absence of an effective Jim Johnson. 2 on, nobody out, and 3rd pitcher of the inning coming in.
Back at the first Camden Yards ASG- where Griffey hit it while doing BP before the Derby- the HR Derby wasn't a big deal yet...
13 years old and 6'2"
Random idea - hold the HR derby in a city that ISN'T hosting the ASG, and in a city that has a historic, interesting park as a background. That way two cities per year could get some ASG revenue. Either make it two days before the big event, instead of the day before, so the All-stars can easily fly to the ASG, or have the best prospects battle it out.
Or you could have a prospect HR derby two days before, then the real derby, then maybe a derby for retired players the day after using those fun short OF fences.
Another random thought- what if, instead of a cut-and-dry robot strike zone, we introduce a random error element to the code? So that sometimes, a pitch eyeball high is called a strike, on purpose, to mimick "the human element"?
Scott Hairston hits his first career HR to put the Nats up 9-6.
MLB The Show does this. It's frustrating as hell, but it really adds to the realism.
Random question: who is Andrew Brown?
The Braves had an Andrew Brown they traded to the Dodgers as part of the Sheffield deal back in 2002, and then he got traded to the Indians a few years later, but he was a reliever. Outfielder Andrew Brown is a mystery to me.
