    Ichiro had himself a day. 7-8, 2 doubles, 4 SB, 2 runs, and a clutch game-winning RBI. Up to .317/.337/.439 for the Yankees. I wonder where he ends up next year.

    How inspiring are these gritty, hardscrabble Yankees? Dogged by a team riding an unprecedented wave of good fortune, crippled by devastating injuries all season long, their hard-earned wealth made little more than a slush fund for the league office for the benefit of well-connected cronies, and yet these Yankees, written off again and again, somehow manage to defy the odds and the prognosticators and continue to win. America loves their plucky underdogs and these never-say-die Yankees seem prepared to continue their uphill climb towards the postseason. If you aren't inspired, you aren't paying attention.

    This is a great game. Felix pitched brilliantly, as usual, but there has been outstanding D on both ends. Even McClouth chipped in with a great catch early in the game. Brendan Ryan is a joy to watch at SS, and Machado is fun to see too.

    Just looked at the box score to the Yankees' second game: 8 hits, 8 walks, 7 stolen bases, no caught stealing, just 1 DP and only 2 runs. But they won, so it's ok.

    Ugh.

    So...looks like I'll be going to a boatload of ballgames next week. We're even getting our old Belfry gang together as my old website partner and another buddy come in from Chicago for the BoSox series. After 17 straight years of a week of games, we stopped two seasons ago because it was too depressing (our winning weeks in all those years, even with the winning seasons in the 90's? Three. Hadn't seen more than two wins in a week since 2004.) It will be so good to sit with those guys next week...just please hold on, Birds!

    All credit to Baltimore, I was sure I'd come back to London and find they were looking up at Tampa Bay and the Yankees. Of course, I still don't really buy them as a contender, but I'm willing to concede that I may end up not buying them all the way to the World Series.

    Funny to think that Toronto--who play the Yankees 5 more times, and Baltimore 4--may end up deciding the AL East.

    Seriously? Thrown out at second?
    If it's good enough for Babe Ruth, it's good enough for Michael Saunders.

    All's right with the world after Derek Holland asserts himself as a pretty good money pitcher, and the Rangers knock CJ Wilson around in the meantime. I like CJ and wish him the best, but just not this year :)

    I don't think Abraham Lincoln himself could have put any better, and maybe not even the late George M. Steinbrenner. Truly words to live by.

    At least 8 walks, 8 hits, 7 SB and 0 CS has been done 15 times and the fewest runs scored by any team in any such game prior to yesterday was 4. The Yankees are making history with their inability to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
