STL vs ATL for NL wild card this year is awesome, given what happened last year (and how they clinched the division for STL in 2006). Hopefully the GOBs wait a few years before paying them back for their generosity.

Regardless, I'll be rooting for the winner of that game for the rest of the season- here's to an NLCS in SF and a WS in Oakland!

PS The Dodgers, unannounced, were giving away bobbleheads left over from promo nights the last two seasons to fans entering the game, I thought that was a nice gesture. I got Clayton Kershaw.

I only watch the Dodgers when they play the Giants, but Mattingly seems to make a LOT of questionable decisions. Why on earth was Ellis (who hit a home run his last at bat) still trying to bunt with two strikes on him?

I wish I could tell ya man. That whole AB Elian Herrera was in the on-deck circle and I was just thinking, "you've got to be kidding me".

And that's not even touching the early hook of Capuano for Jamey f'in Wright in a must-win scenario, or the IBB to Angel Pagan to go after red-hot Marco Scutaro. If it wasn't for one or two questionable Mattingly decisions, if it wasn't for Mark Ellis' overly aggressive baserunning, if it wasn't for Matt Kemp having a bad night - they could have, probably should have, had this one.

Did Ellis run through a stop sign on that play? I was watching in a bar so there was no sound but I couldn't believe he went for third...he was easily out by five feet. That to me was the turning point, especially considering the double a couple of pitches later.

Edit: Or, as Grant from McCovey Chronicles put it: "I get frustrated with Bochy. Oh, boy, how I get frustrated with Bochy. But Don Mattingly is Cap'n Perspective over there in the other dugout.He put a runner on base to face Marco Scutaro. That run decided the ballgame. The game eliminated the Dodgers."

I didn't notice, the people behind me said that the third base coach put up a stop sign but I guess Ellis got a little carried away with the moment, it looked like a bad decision to go from the moment he rounded third - it was obvious he was going to be thrown out at least halfway to the bag.

And from watching the way he reacted after his strikeouts (with increasing frustration and anger), I got the distinct impression that Matt Kemp was putting entirely too much pressure on himself to Be The Guy and win the game for the team, which no doubt contributed to his bad ABs with RISP. Somebody needed to calm him down and get him to clear his head before going up there.

The sac bunt down by 1 in the 9th after the lead-off guy gets on base. I just could never get behind that in the absence of an epically bad hitter with spectacularly bad bench options.

And this was done with the guy who leads the team in OBP and with a base-stealer on the bench who eventually comes in and steals a base anyway. If I were a Dodger fan I would be losing my s**t right now.

With the billionaires buying the Dodgers, they've sure done the best thing possible for Giants fans by keeping the current "brain" trust in place.

No Pujols and very little Berkman and Carpenter, not to mention a rehab season from Wainwright. Congrats to the Cards and their fans.

i am so glad my g.f. did not know about that. she would have grabbed as many as she could if we had been there. she doesn't collect them, she sells them on Ebay.
