I'm going to say this again and again if I have to, and this is especially for all the Nationals fans out there: we are NOT playing for a God-damn pennant on Sunday afternoon! We're only playing for a better playoff seed is all.
It's nice to see the Dodgers finally figured out how to hit again. Too bad they let about a month go by of total floundering, so it's probably too late.

I've always thought winning a division is important, even in the one-WC team era. You won something. It's especially true if you win that division with the best record in the game.

Yes, winning the division is important, especially in this new playoff format. It's just not the "pennant" is all I'm saying. The pennant is when you win the league and go to the World Series.

yes, they are. I've read a number of posts/comments (other sites, of course) that equate winning the division with winning the pennant.
At least you can rely on them to fly their flags right side up.

For all the Brave bashing, it's looking like one more day will be required for the Nats to win their not-pennant.
So, is there a divisional prohibition against two teams from the same division playing in the LDS? Besides the Nats defeating the Braves in the division, if the Braves do advance, there is a not impossible chance they'd have a the third best record - would the Nats get the Giants?
The Nats having to play the first two of the LDS in Atlanta just seems wrong - and I say that as a Braves fan.

So, this year, the team with the best record in the NL will have to wait until the play-in is played in order to learn their opponent, who might well be the second best team in the league, and will then have to fly to that city to play the first two games of a five game series?

The Nats and Reds are actually both 96-63 as of today, so the Braves could play the Reds in the Division Series.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I completely anticipate the Cardinals beating the Braves in the one-off.
But, either way - Reds or Nats - the team that finishes "first" will get screwed, I think. I suppose the chance to lock up homefield in the LCS is important. But I'd rather know earlier who I'm playing. I suppose if the Cards do advance, they're clearly worse than the other four teams. But Braves/Giants? Toss up.
Guess I'm worried for nothing. Just hope my team can advance to the LDS.

No idea, CFB. Just going on record. To be fair, I haven't managed to catch a Cards game in over a month, so I really have little idea how well they're playing/how good the are. I'm just saying you're going to have 4 teams between 95-98 wins and then an 87-89 win team. The Cardinals certainly aren't a bad team and are plenty capable of winning it all. Just that their overall results are a notch below the other four teams.
Like I say, I completely expect you guys to beat us on Friday.
