New Green book looks to be a diamond Dallas page turner.

It is a good, lively book and it mirrors Green’s good, lively 6 decades in the game. He rips only three people, Bobby Valentine, Art Mahaffey and Gene Mauch.

“Valentine is a phony and that’s what I call him in the book,” Green grumbles, choosing to skip details of the possible backstabbing while Dallas managed the Mets.

S(uper)SSS, but he looked good in September. He seems to have a very good idea of what he is doing at the plate and lordy, that ball JUMPS off his bat. I'm excited to see what happens with the understanding that the odds of Darin Ruf kicking butt are pretty small.

Darin Ruf is too good of a name not to be a superstar, or at least a great TTO slugger. Please?

I like the idea of Darin Ruf having the career Domonic Brown was supposed to have. Well, without the centerfielding.

Also his fellow Nebraskan late-round pick out of college Tyler Cloyd being a longtime rotation anchor.

Ruf didn't even look too awful in the field from what I saw after his callup. He's not going to win any Gold Gloves out in left, but he had a nice arm & didn't do anything stupid.

zempf, not sure about the "nice arm" but the ball did at least go straight. :) He didn't look as bad as I feared.

Since I've watched Covington, the Bull, Lonnie Smith, Inky, Pat the Bat and Raauuuull out there, I do not fear the Ruf.

Come to think of it, it is entirely possible that my perception of his arm being good was thrown off by the fact that he was replacing Juan "Noodle" Pierre out there.

Since I've watched Covington, the Bull, Lonnie Smith, Inky, Pat the Bat and Raauuuull out there, I do not fear the Ruf.

Let us not fail to mention Gregg Jefferies.

Suffice it to say that if Ruf is an above average hitter, the Phils would have some cheap roster flexibility which they have missed the last few years
