    How the 2013 Mets make the playoffs

    Let’s be honest: The trade of R.A. Dickey has given Mets fans every reason to punt on the 2013 season.

    Yes, you’re looking ahead to 2014 and 2015, but 2013 comes first.

    And maybe, just maybe, there’s a way we can pretend that the Mets could be contenders this year.

    So that got me thinking—what is that one combination in 100 that puts the Mets into October?

    Of course Buck Martinez selects a slow chopper into the hole at short on which a DP could not be turned as evidence of the problem of infield range for the Tigers.

    Guaranteed that it would have been a nice play if Jeter had made it.

    Arguably the fourth-most valuable piece (at the time) that the Cubs traded for Rich Harden and Chad Gaudin four years ago.

    I am liking all these long at bats for the A's. Especially the ones that don't end in inning-ending strikeouts.

    SCOUT: Justin Verlander battled back from 3-0 to strike out Brandon Moss.

    Thank goodness for the Gameday Scout; I don't know what I'd do without it.

    Yeah, almost an hour into the game and it's only heading into the bottom of the 3rd. And that was with the Tigers going quickly in the 2nd.

    The Tigers are shaky in the can't get to stuff way, the A's are shaky in the can't catch the ball way.

    Yep, not thrilled with the announcers in this one. I found Cal with Smoltz last night was very good. Though they might get old fast.

    Well, the A's are doing a nice job of driving up the pitch count, but it won't mean anything unless they, you know, score some runs.

    Many people believe left field is the hardest position to play? Turns out Raul Ibanez wasn't actually a bad fielder, he was just playing an uber challenging position...
