So the Rangers run when they shouldn’t, and they bunt when no one else would.
Against a great pitcher like Price, you can’t be giving away early outs on the bases, and the Rangers did it twice in a close game.
Before we get to the overworked bullpens, though, it all starts with rookie Martin Perez against Tampa Bay’s ace, David Price. If that sounds like a mismatch, it isn’t.
Price won 20 games and was the AL’s Cy Young winner in 2012, but he was only 9-8 with a 3.39 ERA in 26 starts this season. He has been historically poor both in Rangers Ballpark (1-2 record, 10.26 ERA) and against Texas in the postseason (0-3). [...]
The Rangers feel like they are the hotter team, having turned a two-game deficit to Tampa Bay into a tie over the weekend. But the Rays had run off seven straight wins before stumbling Friday and Saturday in Toronto.
What on earth do you expect from a GM?
Face, I thought of you when I saw that Moreland was starting the game against David Price. Talk about running up the white flag. And systematically, because with Baker and Berkman hurt, I'm not sure they had anybody else who's ever worn a 1B glove. Moreland played every game at first for the last two weeks, just as miserably as he'd been playing before that.
Even though the Rangers will be hard pressed to win 90 games again in 2014,
Moreland is a glaring weakness but just about every team in baseball has someone like that. I think BDC's points in #6 are pretty good. The ledger for Daniels looks pretty heavily tilted to the positive to me.
