One of the most formidable tools in a pro baseball pitcher’s arsenal is the consistency of pitching motion when throwing different kinds of pitches. If your delivery looks the same to an opposing batter when throwing a 95-mph fastball, a 80-mph curve, and a 85-mph change-up, well, you’ve really got something there. Texas pitcher Yu Darvish is ripping up the AL this year with a 4-1 record, 1.65 ERA, and 49 strikeouts, which prompted Drew Sheppard to layer five of Darvish’s pitches on top ...

If you want to make the case that minor league statistics do a lousy job of predicting major league performance, you really don't have anything but anecdotal data to fall back on. By and large, it's simply not true. But man, would this guy be a good example to use. A lot of people, myself included, projected this guy to be an absolute monster. Could I have been more wrong? I guess it's possible. I still think he's really going to break out and be something special. I like him even more than the Vladimir projection. He will hit .300 with a few homers one of these years. I can understand Pittsburgh running out of patience, though.

Another candidate for a do-over is Jeremy Giambi. And almost was David Ortiz, but Theo saved him from his organization.

On the other hand, Erubiel Durazo was freed by Beane and had some success before flaming out (I imagine due to injury). Patrick Lennon and Dwayne Hosey were not freed.

So was Delmon a FA? Does that mean his contract can be anything or is he going to get 9 mill based on last years arb contract? Because 'anything' for Delmon F. Young is already insane enough.

Remember when the Phils had multi-dimensional OFs? Victorino and Werth, before that Abreu. Heck even Pat Burrell gave you Power and Patience if nothing else. Now we have half to one dimensional OFs. Let's see:
Revere can field and steal bases;
Brown can take pitches;
Young can kind of hit for power;
AAAAberry can field OK and hit LHP for power;
Laynce Nix can hit some as a LH platoon corner OF (FWIW, his lifetime pinchhitting is awful).
Darin Ruf, well, he can Iron Pig it up. No sense rolling the dice when you can play Delmon Young in his stead.
