So what is Olt's deal this year? He is 24 and foundering in AAA. His average and power are both down (though he has good patience). Is there any reason to believe 2013 is just a bad year rather a sign he won't succeed at higher levels?
Also, how many quality 1B are the Rangers going to trade away so they can keep starting replacement level scrubs like Mitch Moreland? In the past 10 years, Texas has traded away Travis Hafner, Adrian Gonzales, Mark Teixeira, Chris Davis, and soon to be Mike Olt. Mitch Moreland forever!
Is his defense just considered adequate now? I seem to recall he drew a lot of praise for his glove and arm, though his athleticism is somewhat lacking. Looking up a Sickels comment from a year ago, he is described as a guy who might challenge for a gold glove or two.

And Justin Smoak.
I got a kick out of the Good Face's remark. I'm not high on Moreland either, but he has a knack of hitting just well enough when deployed, and keeps his job when other guys seem expendable. Obviously it all depends on who you trade your good 1B for …
Has Olt seen any mlb at bats?
40 horrid PAs in 2012.
I'm not quite sure the Rangers are hesitant to include Perez - his stock has taken a fair bit of a dive, hasn't it? I know he's had a very good year in between AAA and the majors, but hasn't he also had some injury issues going back the last couple years?
Texas is very high on Perez, they like him a lot. I don't think he's untouchable, but I do believe that they're unlikly to give him up for a rental starter. They're pretty much expecting Perez to start for them the rest of the year.
MLBTR referencing Wittenmyer says the all-powerful mystery team (specified: NL) is getting involved! drama!
Plus - we still need Valbuena to anchor a deal for Skaggs or Taillon :-)
Jeff Passan @JeffPassan 2s
Final deal: Cubs trade Matt Garza to the Rangers for Mike Olt, C.J. Edwards, Justin Grimm and PTBNL.
Grimm looks to be aptly named.
