Interesting stuff.

John Farrell and Torey Lovullo looked down toward the Twins bullpen. They saw some stirring, as Minnesota lefty reliever Brian Duensing had grabbed a ball and tossed it a few times.

Then Duensing sat down. It was then the Red Sox manager and his bench coach knew they had put the right people in the right places.

“It’s a good feeling,” Lovullo said after the Red Sox’ 12-5 win over the Twins Saturday night, “when all the puzzle pieces fit perfectly.”

One of the WEEI guys (Kirk Minihane) did a serious hatchet job today on Ortiz for this.

Frankly I loved this when I read it. When Ortiz is talking he's feeling good. Forget about his OPS, when David is riled up, he is ready to go. I find the whole "everyone is against me" thing rather tiresome but if it works for David, go for it.

He'll be better off than Pronk....

Actually Ortiz is playing 1B again tonight (in an AL park, no less) with Gonzalez in right field, so he's getting a chance to showcase his fielding this year.

Have they announced a specific number? I thought it was just that there would be an inter-league game most days to accommodate two 15 team leagues, instead of the concentrated blocks of inter-league games we have now. Aren't they still debating how they'll handle the "traditional rivals"?

You could be right. I heard "balanced schedule" and just blithely assumed that the Yankees would play the Reds exactly as much as they'll play the Red Sox in 2013.

Yep. Ortiz back at DH.

Youkilis is certainly better at 1B than Ortiz (Youkilis being a GG winner, of course), but Ortiz actually played a pretty decent 1B in Philly. It's not that Papi can't play 1B, he just doesn't play it as well as other guys on the team, and I think they want to protect him from injury at DH.

I thought they said 20 IL games per team next year? Not really a significant change other than the fact that they'll be spread throughout the season and not all weekend games. The "rivalry" series are set as 4 game "home and home" series to go Mon-Thurs.
