The gist of the article is that Valentine is still interested in baseball, works hard, and knows a lot, and if he and others can put 2012 in the past MLB has a lot to gain from him. All of that is probably true.
The problem I have is that what happened in 2012 is part of the package you get with Valentine. Like a teenager, he is sensitive to criticism and prone to lying in order to deflect it; he has the potential to be a PR nightmare. The role they would need him to be in would have to minimize the damage he can inflict, and I imagine there are few such roles for him in MLB. Putting 2012 in the past means overlooking some of Valentine's fundamental negatives, and that's not advisable.
