Looks like backing out of last year's 3/$39M deal cost the Red Sox $6M. Hindsight is always 20-20, though.
Apparently he left another year and ten million on the table.
I know this is groan inducing, but whatever the Sox have going for them in the makeup department is consistently helping them in real ways.
I like to think that would be me as a professional athlete.
Does Choo make sense for the Sox now? Nava-Victorino-Choo with JBJ working in CF when Victorino & Choo need days off and Gomes in LF occasionally.
Now just get Drew back.
I'm guessing they will just commit to trying Bogaerts at SS and collect their draft pick for Drew. This will probably (but not definitely) make them weaker in 2014, but this seems a good time as any to dial back on "win-now" mode in this one smallish instance.
but don't have the "salary cap" room to do it
