Sweet spectroscopy! The argument is rolled out again!
Read More...It’s not surprising to hear what two scouts from each league, who both have watched a lot of the American League this year, say about Dustin Pedroia.
“Nobody is playing his position better in baseball right now than Pedroia,” said the AL scout. “He’s playing out of his mind. The plays he’s making — you just don’t see that stuff every day, but you see it with him every day. Honestly, I’m surprised he doesn’t get hurt ...

Of course Pods will be on waivers as soon as he runs out, but hey, that's how the big leagues work, bud!
Breslow is signed for 2012; assuming no money changes hands, Boston's share of his contract is $600k. If I have this right he's arb-eligible for 2013. Albers has roughly $350k left on his 2012 deal, and is arb-eligible for 2013. Podsednik might have $250k left if he's on the major-league roster. So, basically, Arizona sacrificed a little surplus talent in the bullpen for OF depth in 2012 and (likely) cost savings in 2013. Like with Boston, this was a margin play for Arizona.
Given that each team was dealing from surplus, I guess you could say the trade boils down to Arizona selling roster space to Boston for cash. Even there, it's a win-win.
Not to mention the fact that Breslow only went to the A's because the Red Sox DFAed him to keep Bryan ####### Corey on the roster.
* I've considered him a better pitcher than his numbers showed for years now,
* anything can happen over 40 innings, and
* he's dramatically outperformed (by ERA) his peripherals (for example, ERA=2.29, FIP=5.02)
Two guys they could have had on NRI's 4 short months ago.
My guess is that he would rather play in a city nicer than Reno.
