One, two big schools
All the worlds are
Colliding all around you
Read More...I was going to write something today for SI.com re Votto. Specifically, that Votto represented one of the clearest cases of Old-v-New schools of thought, re hitting production. The idea was discussed when The Technician was sitting on 4 HR/20 BI. Now, he’s up to 7 and 22. Both #s are subpar for him and, in fact, for a No. 3 hitter. The obvious question being, can a guy who ranks 11th among NL 1Bs in BI be seen as having a ...

1. PASTE Thinks This Trout Kid Might Be OK (Zeth) posted on February 16, 2013 at 11:03 AM # hit 0 | hit 0Mike Leake is a fifth starter/long man/waiver wire guy and the Reds happen to have five pitchers they like better right now. Presumably they're going to keep him around and put him back in the rotation as soon as one of those five gets hurt (which likely as not will happen during spring training). I'm not sure what the story is here.
Because in Dusty world, it's using pitchers *less* that messes them up.
As if Cueto and Arroyo have a lot in common. They are both pitchers who throw righty, play for the Reds, their last names end in O .... why, they're interchangeable!
I agree with this but there isn't a spot for him on the Reds if everyone'e healthy coming out of ST. Not sure what his option situation is but he could end up in AAA to begin the season.
Yes, it's hard to believe that in this day and age there are managers who are still wedded to archaic ideas like a five-starter rotation.
However, their splits don't bear that out - it doesn't make any difference for Cueto at all, while the difference for Arroyo is that he pitches better on 3 days rest (only 8 starts, but a 3.19 ERA (a full run lower than his career 4.23)) but there's no difference in 4 or 5 days rest.
He will meet a tall, dark stranger.
Mike Leake pitching WAR: 1.7
Mike Leake batting WAR: 2.5 (.274/308/348).
He can go the Micah Owings route!
