I'm surprised never have heard much about Hilltop, being the home of the Yankees for the time it was. Did everyone hate it?
I also love the way that both the early postcards and the early press accounts always called it "The Yankee Stadium".
Hopefully someone someday will create some sort of software that will enable us to search through and access all of the information that is out there. I wonder what they will call it.
To be fair, I've asked questions here before where I could have learned the answer via Googling, just because people here tend to have an anecdote, historical story, or other interesting fact about these kinds of things which I haven't/wouldn't have gotten from just Google.
In regards to the old Yankee Stadium being fully enclosed...I think idea of fully enclosing it with three decks was scrapped with the realization that it would make the amount of sunlight on the field needed to play more difficult. This was a decade and a half before the concept of lights in the major leagues would be a reality.
