Don't most teams have a lower BA in the later innings, when they're facing the usual array of fire-balling relief pitchers? (Too lazy to look it up, obviously...)
Fielding metrics are much harder to analyze, but by most measures Detroit is average to a little below average overall defensively. No huge culprit in that corner.
MLB Defensive Efficiency 1st PIT - .718Average - .69329th DET - .679
Well, I don't think they should upgrade defensively at first and third.
The only thing I'd change is moving Porcello, who needs a good defensive IF to be successful
Signing a FA 3B improves the defense, even a poor fielder like Aramis Ramirez just because Cabrera is so much better than Fielder at first. Someone like Eric Chavez is even better, probably the better fielder still and super cheap.
The team as currently constituted is easily the best in baseball on paper.
Soriano, Quentin, and people I've never heard of. Is Viciedo good?
