I'm a bit disappointed by the fan turnout ofnthe Dominicans and Puerto Ricans. Maybe there aren't as many in Miami as I'd assumes. Too bad they can't do a round in New York.

I don't believe there are large populations of either in Miami. (The big Puerto Rican population in Florida is (or was) in Central Florida.)

I'm disappointed my article about the WBC ratings overseas wasn't accepted. I might have been too sarcastic in pretending to think the WBC sucked. But man do Americans who think that no one likes this come across as the worst sort of parochial egocentric pricks.

I commented in the other thread (the one about how the WBC sucks) about something I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere. To wit: the pitch count limits help offset the small sample size of the tournament format. Forcing multiple pitchers to go to the mound makes each game a little closer to a whole series.

Discuss.

I think there is something to that.

Beyond that I think it creates some interesting tactical situations. It's interesting to see how managers deal with the impending pitch count limits.

One other nice thing from a MLB team perspective is that I like the idea of my guys getting into some pressure situations. For example seeing Jose de la Torre in a situation like last inning seems more useful from an evaluative standpoint than seeing him pitch against a bunch of Blue Jay AA hitters in Fort Myers would.

Sutcliffe on Brian Sweeney "10 years ago he was one of the top prospects in the Mariners organization".

10 years ago Sweeney was a 29 year old pitching in Tacoma for the 4th time (without making the majors once). He got brought up in September to get some garbage time innings. I'm not trying to rag on Sutcliffe, I'm just utterly baffled by that description and wondering if Seattle had some other Sweeney.

I wouldn't even say it's the bullpen. If Denorfia doesn't attempt the heroic throw to home, Rios can't score from second.
