    So...how do you qualify to be able to play for a country? What link do these guys have with Spain besides being able to speak Spanish?

    Someone posted yesterday that you qualify if one of your grandparents qualified for (but didn't necessarily hold) citizenry from that country.

    Under an immigration law Spain passed a few years ago, Spain will give papers to just about anyone with Spanish ancestry. I read somewhere that, under this law, something like a third of all Cubans were eligible, although a huge percentage of them would have trouble meeting the documentation requirements and/or paying the fees.

    There have been a lot of big 1st innings in the WBC so far. And here is Canada with a 4 spot in the first. A Canadian win certainly makes things easier for USA.

    Is it just me, or did Robinson not tag Garcia? The ump didn't call him out right away, I wonder if he was waiting for Garcia to touch the plate.

    Garcia didn't touch the plate. That's what I was wondering; if Garcia had just touched the plate instead of walking to the dugout, would he have been called safe?

    If a suspended player cannot be reinstated for the remainder of the tournament, Canada should just put some designated hockey goons on their roster and have them crowd the plate.
