ESPN: Olney: Source: WBC to cover salaries

Players injured during the World Baseball Classic will have their salaries paid by the WBC organization while they are unable to play for their major league teams, according to an MLB source.

That would mean that players such as Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira and Dodgers shortstop Hanley Ramirez will be paid by the WBC during their respective absences.

Hopefully Jim Henderson will be more useful to the Brewers than he was going to be to the Canadian national team. (He will be until he blows a lead, I guess.)

The Brewers have a lot of Canadians in the org, but most of them are presumably ineligible for this qualifier (Henderson, Axford, Taylor Green) or in the low low minors and presumably not much use (David Otterman, a few others I'm failing to recall right now.)

I'm going to assume they mean North Battleford, Saskatchewan.

I'm assuming Richmond and Hill will be the "aces"? I'm very excited as I'm actually going to this qualifier. With a British friend who's never seen baseball beyond our Midlands League. I'm hoping there's at least a pitcher or two who can touch 90.

Ryan Dempster is upset that he made the Canadian team before he was informed of the decision that he might make the Canadian team -- so his status is up in the air...

If Canadians want Dempster to pitch for them, it is crucial that this all be kept very quiet and rumor-free.

How would the Bolton Robots of Doom do against Scott Richmond?

I'm guessing not well. Since they earned promotion to AAA this year they are 0-16 with 35 runs scored and 233 against.

Not that I'm bitter about getting my club getting eliminated by them in the AA playoffs last year...

Wow, the Bracknell/Windsor Bears are 0-26 and have been outscored 182-0 this year That's 7-0 per game; is there a 7-run mercy rule?

At least they can take comfort in the knowledge that they're not underperforming their pythagorean record.

I'm not sure if different divisions have different rules or not....in the AA Midlands it's a lead of 10 runs or more after 7 innings and you call the game.

I love when Kruger meets up with Kramer again at Festivus and says, surprised, "Dr. Van Nostrand?" Good attention to detail there.

BTW, did you see the actor who played Kruger recently tried to kill himself? He survived, but it was ugly. Not sure how he's doing now.
