Kevin Youkilis needs back surgery, out 10-12 weeks

The injury hits just keep on coming for the Yankees, who announced that Kevin Youkilis needs surgery to repair a herniated disc and will be out for 10-12 weeks.

That puts Youkilis’ season in jeopardy, because 10 weeks would get him into September and any setbacks would leave him running out of time. Youkilis hit just .219 with two homers and a .648 OPS in 28 games for the Yankees after signing a one-year, $12 million deal as a free agent.

It would be exactly in keeping with A-Rod's general savvy to cut off the person who could most easily bring him down. This is when you need a personal manager who explains to you that your reputation is forever dependent on Cousin Yuri during his lifetime so you only have two options: 1) keep him happy or 2) arrange an accident.

How many famous and talented people end up with leeches hanging off of them who don't have to go out and get real jobs because of it? When one of the leeches causes problems, it's pretty low, but not surprising.

Even Mark Sanford--not exactly A-Rod--had his staffers keep track of which people around him had known him before he was elected to Congress so he could separate the people who were only leeching off him from the people who were both his friends and leeching off of him. The idea that he had to have it written down speaks to the incredible press of people on even a lower-level person like him.

There are perks? UFC fighters earn peanuts. If your name isn't John Jones, George St. Pierre or Anderson Silva you're basically busting your hump for a middle class paycheck, and they are plenty of guys making 8 and 8 ($8000 to show and another $8000 to win). The UFC is a fine example of how a complete lack of market balance and a closed economic system depresses pay, boxers were making bigger money than UFC champions almost 100 years ago.
