Pedroiadolia: The psychological phenomenon of seeing wacko images on dirty uniforms.
Read More...The narratives around the two players, however, could not be different. Pedroia is almost the prototype of the over-achieving “scrappy” player. He is a 5’8” middle infielder who does the little things well. This ignores that he was also a second round draft choice who played baseball at a top baseball school. Cano, on the other hand is bigger, more athletic and does not project scrappiness at all. Throughout ...

1 2 >I also agree with #1. One bad photo is one bad photo.
Jeter's never really had the kind of guns you usually see on MLB hitters. Some gossip mag had a photo of him and his model du jour on vacation a year or two ago, and shirtless Jeter was not a particularly impressive sight back then, at least by pro athlete standards.
Of course, I hope he's even FATTER than the photo indicates. Even though I'm a Yankee fan, the hilarity potential of Fat Derek playing shortshort outweighs all other considerations.
Where's the boot? Pinstripes do make you look slimmer.
But you have to admit, it's a fantastically bad photo.
Two bad photos, actually.
Especially if you're a shortstop with 3000 hits and have spent your entire career with one team in the AL East. Cal Ripken is only 52, but if you told somebody who didn't know who he was that he was 70 they wouldn't doubt you.
You really think so? I think Cal looks pretty good. The bald thing doesn't help but he seems pretty fit and vibrant when I see him.
Your shortstop is so fat, he eats ground balls like it was ground beef - or he doesn't because he is too fat to get to them.. or something. Damn-it.
"My hope: He holds his own next year."
this would go SO viral on the internet....
Shatner certainly looks fantastic for 81, but Cal Ripken looks a lot older than 52.
This is Ripken at 35. He has always looked much older than his age.
I'm confused as to why you think his range will increase with the weight gain.
I dunno, I saw Ripken maybe a year or two ago on tv and couldn't believe how spherical he looked. Maybe I caught him on a particularly bad, water-retaining day.
The Yankees will be wearing pinstripes for all home and away games. THERE WILL BE NO SPRING TRAINING JERSEYS WORN ON THE FIELD IN TAMPA BAY DURING GRAPEFRUIT LEAGUE GAMES. The traditional home pinstripe will be the only uniform worn.
In addition, Rich Garces has been brought in to help Derek Jeter with his Spanish. Mr. Garces will be alongside Mr. Jeter as much as possible. Please join us in welcoming Mr. Garces to the Yankee family.
If that's shortstops as of 10 years ago, where's Nomar? Is that Jimmy Rollins? Why is he wearing non-red pinstripes?
The best thing about the picture from #30 is everything.
You'll be ecstatic if he has his worst offensive year ever? Do you live in Maryland, St. Petersberg, Ontario, or Boston?
Prepare for a visit from HR.
2. In that topless photo, who are the three dudes other than Jeter & Rodriguez?
They look like the Icy Hot Stuntaz
"I don't like Jeter. He looks like a cross between The Rock and a muppet."
Alex Gonzalez (the other Alex Gonzalez), Rey Ordonez and Renteria?
The elder Gonzalii (the one from Miami, not the one who played in Miami)
Renteria
ARod
Ordonez
Jeter
For some reason multiple angles of this scene exist. Ordonez looks particularly amazing here.
