Mets officials began asking one another questions that remain in their minds today: Can we get Giancarlo Stanton?
Zack Wheeler isn't nearly enough to get a guy who slugged .608 and hit 37 homers in only 501 plate appearances as a 22 year old.
What the heck are the other 8 teams thinking?
The guy then snapped his fingers.
NY Mets monitoring Marlins’ Giancarlo Stanton
If the Marlins trade Stanton, the big payoff is we will finally learn how many games a team of replacement players wins.
They wouldn't trade Wheeler for Upton?
Why would the Mets want Stanton? They're pretty set in the outfield.
I fully endorse Walt's scenario of the Rays moving to Indianapolis and signing Stanton.
By a landslide.
But I'd guess Texas would offer Profar and Olt, which is much better.
Said another Mets official, also not in the top tier of decision-makers: “If you could do that, you would have to. You trade the pitcher for the everyday player almost every time. Would you like fries with that?”
In other news, I am monitoring Kate Upton. Up in a tree. With binoculars.
For anyone keeping score, John Buck has posted a .6 WAR.
Can we get Giancarlo Stanton? Would we trade Zack Wheeler to do it?
The thing is, trading four years of control probably isn't going to net the Marlins 4 times the talent that trading him with one year of control would return. So they are probably better off using their one star player to sell a few tickets and trading him before his last arb year.

but doesn't the world think "it's all about pitching"? I could see a team preferring a package that includes Wheeler or a similarly regarded prospect.
They really, really, really should trade Buck. He's used up all his hits through July and is about to break.
I get that SABR types value Profar and Olt more
