Also known as THE WILL TO WIN.

The other day, I was watching the visiting announcing crew call a Kansas City Royals game, when Jeff Francoeur came to the plate. Before it even began, I knew what was coming. The announcers started to praise Francoeur. You know, it was all the usual stuff—great leader, plays terrific defense, bat coming around, wonderful guy. And, suddenly, a question came to mind.

both NBC and CBS launched sports radio networks within the past few months. TV Erik or others who understand this stuff -- why the sudden activity. I get that sports radio is popular and that syndicated radio is cheap, but that has been the case for years. In Detroit, they are on long given up for dead AM stations. Is that the case elsewhere?

Yes, in Houston, pretty much. It's rightwing talk radio (which also hosts the Stros) and right wing evengelicals, both flying in circles, and Radio Latino for sanity. ESPN is on FM.

Most of the time, it's about new revenue streams from the same talent. NBC Sports will hire Valentine and in his contract it'll say that he does radio, TV, and Internet appearances. So for the same money and with most of the same technical hands, they can attract lots of different audiences. Bobby would literally be on the radio from the same studio as the TV one within ten minutes of a TV appearance, saying many of the same things.

First read this as "Bobby Valentine is moving back to the moon." I didn't question it; it made sense.

In the last 4 months, Orlando has become a hotbed of sports radio, going from one puny station to 3 strong stations (and the puny one).
